International RSO
The African Student Union (ASU) at Southern Illinois University Carbondale is an organization dedicated to fostering mutual understanding among its members and sharing African culture with the broader community. Regular membership is open to all students of African origin, their families, and any students, faculty, or staff interested in African traditions and heritage.
To promote mutual understanding among members, stimulate African student involvement in university affairs, and foster the exchange of ideas and awareness regarding events in Africa and the African Diaspora.
To establish a well-connected campus environment that actively bridges cultural and social gaps through vibrant exchanges with American communities and other diverse student organizations.
Organize the major annual Africa Week program featuring an internationally acclaimed keynote speaker; execute at least one major cultural activity per semester; participate in a minimum of two community service actions per semester within the Southern Illinois area; and complete at least one major service program directly relating to Africa each school year.
Damilola is a Performance Studies student from Nigeria with a passion for learning and personal growth. He enjoys discovering new ideas, spending time with close friends, and connecting with others. Outside academics, he stays active by playing soccer and swimming, balancing creativity with an active and engaging lifestyle.
Hassanat is a Ph.D. student in Molecular and Integrative Physiology from Nigeria with a strong interest in neuroscience. Outside the lab, she enjoys watching K-dramas, movies, and television series, discovering great food, and trying new experiences. She values cultural connections, meeting new people, and creating lasting memories wherever she goes.
Aisha is a student from Nigeria studying Computer Engineering and Biomedical Engineering. She enjoys traveling, exploring nature, and capturing moments through photography. In her free time, she likes watching Asian television shows and discovering new places. She also has a passion for problem-solving and never gets tired of working through math challenges.

Basirat is an Economics student from Surulere, Lagos, Nigeria, who enjoys exploring different cultures through travel and spending time in nature. She is passionate about learning new things and embracing new experiences. In her free time, she enjoys sewing, which she considers a relaxing and creative outlet.

She enjoys meeting new people, engaging with her community, and creating positive experiences for those around her. In her free time, she loves cooking, watching movies, and sharing her passion for food.
Oyinkansola is a Computer Engineering student from Indianapolis, Indiana, who enjoys combining creativity and problem-solving in everyday life. She loves playing chess, crocheting, expressing herself through fashion, and listening to music. She actively explores student organizations that share her interests and enjoys drawing in her free time as well.

Ifeanyi is an MFA student in Creative Writing from Lagos, Nigeria, who enjoys meaningful conversations and connecting with new people. A passionate gamer, he loves discussing RPGs, open-world adventures, and horror titles. He also values health and fitness, and in his free time enjoys watching anime and exploring creative storytelling.
Nathaniel is a TESOL student from Takoradi, Ghana, who enjoys connecting with people and exploring new experiences. He loves singing, cooking, reading, sightseeing, and watching soccer. When he is not focused on academics, he can often be found walking dogs and enjoying time outdoors with friends and community members.
