Indian Student Association

The Indian Student Association at Southern Illinois, Carbondale, is a non-profit organization. The purpose of the organization is to provide an opportunity for all students of Indian and foreign origin to interact and share the cultural heritage of India. Our primary goal is to provide a homely atmosphere for the students and families from India. We are concerned with promoting awareness about Indian traditions, cuisine, music, art, and dance forms by conducting events all year round.

“My name is Mohammed Aleemuddin, and I am pursuing my Master’s degree with the school of Mechanical Engineering here at SIU. Being a part of the diverse international student community, I thought I can bring along the multi-cultural diversity and harmony to the community. India alone has more than 2000+ ethnicities and over a 122 languages in the country and is itself a homeland for almost  1.42 Billion people and one of the fastest growing countries in the world. I wish to represent my home country and the people and also the cultural values to the best of my efforts”

“My name is Chetan Singh from Haryana, India, currently pursuing a master’s in microbiology. I joined ISA to foster a sense of togetherness within the Indian community, promote our culture and values, and enrich the experience of living abroad. My goal is to make our stay enjoyable and provide growth opportunities, while helping international students appreciate and enjoy Indian culture”

“My name is Rajvi Patel, and I am a junior pursuing a bachelor’s degree in physiology with a minor in chemistry on a pre-optometry track. I chose to join the Indian Student Association board because I am passionate about celebrating and preserving our rich cultural heritage. I believe in the importance of creating a space where we can share traditions, support each other, and foster a sense of belonging. By joining the board, I aim to help organize events that celebrate our culture, foster connections, and provide a platform for meaningful discussions and growth”

“My name is Dayadula Shivashankar Reddy . I am currently pursuing my studies in Water Resource Engineering within the Civil Department at SIU. I chose to become an ISA board member to foster a close-knit community among Indian students at SIU, promoting cultural awareness and providing a supportive network for all members to thrive academically and socially. This role allows me to contribute actively to campus diversity and create meaningful experiences that enrich student life”

Bhavishya Edulabalapuram, Cultural Secretary (bhavishya.edulabalapuram@siu.edu)

“I’m a graduate student specializing in health informatics, originating from the dynamic south of India. My fervent adoration for Indian culture led me to embrace the role of cultural secretary at SIUC’s Indian student Association. Through this position, I’m committed to fostering a deep sense of community and celebrating our rich heritage among peers”
