The Indian Student Association at Southern Illinois University Carbondale is a non-profit organization that opens its doors to all students of Indian and foreign origin. It serves as an interactive community space dedicated to sharing and celebrating the vibrant cultural heritage of India on campus.
To provide a homely, welcoming atmosphere for students and families coming from India while easing their transition into the university community.
To foster a culturally rich and connected campus environment where Indian traditions are widely recognized, celebrated, and integrated through cross-cultural interactions.
Promote a deep awareness of Indian traditions, cuisine, music, art, and dance forms; and host engaging cultural events all year round to facilitate meaningful connection among diverse student groups.
Upasana is a second-year Ph.D. student in Mass Communication and Media Arts from India, specializing in Film Studies. A lifelong Bollywood enthusiast, she is passionate about cinema and storytelling. Through ISA, she hopes to create a welcoming space for Indian and South Asian students while organizing engaging cultural events. Fun Fact: Her family roots trace back to present-day Pakistan and Bangladesh.
